JPSS Satellite Training Session, Sunday July 16, 2017,  1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

The half-day workshop will focus on the direct broadcast (DB) applications extending from the capabilities of the new generation JPSS to a variety of operational forecasting scenarios. Participants will have an opportunity for hands-on experiences using DB data from the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP). The workshop will provide information on JPSS instruments and their improved observational capabilities, new JPSS data product applications, and on-line resources available for training. The workshop format will consist of a balanced mix of presentations and hands-on exercises demonstrating the applications of the current JPSS DB products and those new capabilities being considered for operational applications.

The hands-on exercises will include analyzing and forecasting Hurricane Otto which impacted Central America in November 2016 and observing the  wildfires which occurred near Santiago, Chile in January 2017.
